Preserving Your Wedding Bouquet
When you plan a wedding there are so many options to choose from to make your special day unique to you. Besides the obvious choices like a dress, cake, and venue there are what feel like infinite other choices you get to make. Some of those choices are totally optional but may make the day just a bit more beautiful. Think upgraded linens, top shelf liquor, entertainment, the list seems to go on forever.
As a former bride there were a few things I knew I had to have, even if in the moment they seemed excessive. One of those things included preserving my wedding bouquet. I knew it the moment I saw my very own wedding planners bouquet on her bedroom wall. To me it was a beautiful piece of history that she would have forever, something that got more romantic with age.
I gushed about it the rest of our planning session.
Your spouses first memory of you on the wedding day includes your bouquet in hand, and it’s probably one of the last things you glanced at before you looked at your spouse. So it’s more than a beautiful arrangement of flowers; it holds sentimental value and memories of the special day. Although it doesn’t hurt if like me, you have an obsession with flowers. So weather you want to display it in your home or pass it down as a family heirloom, preserving your wedding bouquet is a wonderful way to keep the magic of your wedding day alive.
There are several cost effective ways that you can preserve your wedding bouquet. Some of which include pressing the flowers, hanging them to dry, placing them in a shadow box, or you can have them painted (there are many talented painters on etsy).
When researching, I personally found two different ways of preserving which called to me.
Let’s start with the runner up - Epoxy. This is actually a really amazing way to preserve your flowers because you can make all different mementos, such as posters, photo frame, tables, an art sculpture, really anything you can mold. The best part? You can have it done professionally or easily do it yourself.
However the style that won my heart was an Antique French Frame. Everything about the look called to me because it felt very princess in a castle with her fairy-tail ending. Every time I glance at mine (which is displayed in my living space) I can’t help but feel like I’m falling in love all over again.
Depending on the route you go, preserving a wedding bouquet typically will cost anywhere from $65.00 -$850.00. With shipping and handling my antique silver French frame with pink suede background cost approximately $450.00, which included a separate Christmas ornament with a few of my extra flowers.
Not sure about you but at the time of planning my wedding that would have been a big YIKES. Fortunately for me, as a bridal shower present my wedding planner gifted me a certificate which covered the cost (she must have been listening to all that gushing). At the time I hadn’t thought to place such a gift on my registry but there isn’t a rule that says you can’t! In fact it’s a great way to not only make sure you get to preserve your bouquet but you will also be able to share a special moment with your family member or friend through the kindness of their gift. Happy memories all around!
So brides.. is preserving your wedding bouquet a must have?
