5 Changes Today for a Better Tomorrow
Not everyday is easy, in fact some days are just plain bad from the start and can feel like a lost cause . Sometimes we wake up and stub our toe. We might spill coffee on our white shirt. Perhaps we were running late to work and ended up getting a speeding ticket on top of it. Dropped our phone in the toilet or the ball on that important presentation. It’s a little scary when we think about the endless possibility of things that can go wrong.
If we are not careful this bad day can turn into a bad week, followed by a bad month. On and on until we feel like we no longer have control. If your day started by going down the drain, here are some things you can do that might not fix the day itself but could help you have a better tomorrow.
The first one is probably the most annoying because we hear it all the time. Drink more water! I’m not talking coffee or tea but pure water. Although many drinks contribute to our daily water intake, I think it’s important for us to truly enjoy water as the life source it is for us.
Second, get outside (stand, walk, or run) for 15 minutes. I’m personally a fan of grounding. Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth. Standing in the grass barefoot, laying on the ground outside, or submerging ourselves in water are all ways to ground.
Third, go to bed one hour earlier. Even if your not quite ready to sleep, get snuggled in bed and read a book or listen to a soothing podcast. The point of this is to grant your body rest so that you can reset and start fresh. Oh, nice try -but you will need to skip the TV.
Fourth, if you have the space for it ask a family member or friend how their day was. If that will weigh on you too much, ask a family member or friend if they have space to hear about your day. We are social creatures and having someone to talk to does wonders for our mental health. Before you off load though, do your best to remember to ask if that person has the space to hear you because they might not be having the best day either.
Lastly, do one small chore you were originally going to skip. Emphasis on small so as not to overwhelm yourself, but hey if it leads to a deep clean all the better.
Put your shoes away
Sort the laundry
Wash your pets food and water bowls
Tidy up the bathroom
Prepare your coffee for the next day
Make the bed, even if your only a few hours away from bedtime
All of these little things can sometimes bog us down, but they are also daily reminders of what we have to be grateful for.
I have shoes to carry me through my day
I have clothes to keep me warm
I have companions in life
I can shower as I need
I get to see another day
I have a soft safe place to lay my head each night
Remember, tomorrow always has the possibility to be better.
