Journey to Herbalism
Let’s talk herbalism!
“Journey” may be a bit premature, as the decision to study herbalism is a recent one.
In a world filled with modern medicine and quick fixes, I made a conscious decision to explore the ancient art of herbalism. This decision was born out of a deep curiosity and a desire to reconnect with the healing power of nature.
I have always been fascinated by the healing properties of plants and the wisdom that has been passed down through generations. This has led me to include herbal folklore in my studies as well. Herbal folklore outlines medicinal plant's historic uses, but most importantly, it describes the people who first practiced herbalism.
The goal of embarking on this journey is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the various herbs, their properties, and the ways they can be used to alleviate common ailments. I am excited to learn about the art of preparing herbal remedies, from tinctures and teas to salves and oils.
To help myself get started, I began following Beauty, Herbs and Tea on YouTube. She has tons of amazing tips on how to get started, along with the best books for beginners. One tip she has is to start small. Don’t try and learn everything in one day. Pick a couple of herbs to focus on each week and study, study, study until they are committed to memory. https://www.youtube.com/@beautyherbsandtea
Additionally, I decided to treat myself to a personalized herbs and spice book that I can fill at my leisure. I got mine on Etsy from the @Makety shop. The books come in a variety of different wood colors, and you can choose the paper type used to fill it. I wanted something beautiful to display that would draw me to it daily, and this was the perfect piece. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Makety?ref=shop_sugg_market
If herbalism intrigues you, stay tuned for future posts. I’ll be sharing some of my favorite herbs and their uses.
Disclaimer – I do not feel that being knowledgeable in herbalism should replace routine checkups or treatments. I practice herbalism to take care of the body before it becomes ill. Although I am confident in my ability to “listen” to my body, I am not a doctor and would not self-diagnose or self-medicate.
